Standing Poses

Standing poses offer beginners a good opportunity to practice basic figure drawing.  Standing poses generally do not require advance figure drawing techniques such as foreshortening or drawing hidden body parts.  Standing poses can vary a great deal but the common element which must be considered and represented in the drawing is equilibrium.  Key things to remember:

  • At lease one foot must be firmly planted on the ground.
  • The upper body must not be positioned at an extreme angle.
  • The neck, hips and feet must be realistically aligned at all times.
