Life Drawing Class

Life drawing classes are an excellent way to develop your drawing skills. They provide you with the opportunity to work alongside fellow artists with whom you can compare drawing techniques and ideas. They are also an ideal opportunity to experiment with media and perhaps discover those that best suit your style of drawing. Nudes are considered an ideal model for a full study of forms and light and life drawing classes are one of the few opportunities to draw from professional models. You also have the optional benefit of casual tutalige from the class moderator.

No matter where you live, life drawing classes are accessible and highly affordable, generally held in schools at a cost of $5-15 for 2-3 hours. A quick search online for drawing classes in your area will produce many options for class hours and locations.

Class Etiquette:

It is important to arrive at least 10 minutes early to find yourself a seat and set-up your drawing tools so as not to disturb other members of the class. Once the session has started, keep chatter and other noise to a minimum so that you do not distract others who are concentrating on their sketches. Allow the model to set him/herself up in a pose before observing beyond a casual level. Do not stare at the work of others as they draw. There will be a number of breaks throughout the class and if people are open to sharing and discussing their work, they will leave their sketch books open on their desk. At this point, feel free to walk around and meet with others in the class.
