Introduction to Drawing

Very few people are born with the gift to draw well. The vast majority of us must study technique and practice diligently. Don't fall victim to the common misconception that talent of whatever kind is some sort of magical quality, outside of our reach. It's simply not true. Even child prodigies must dedicate themselves to the highest degree. When you really think about it though, it makes sense right? You wouldn't expect to speak a second language, play an instrument or new sport well from the start. Although we certainly wish we could, it´s just not possible. Fear of failure prevents many of us from learning to draw but if you ignore that critical voice just long enough to start the process, you will soon see that drawing is like any other learnable skill. With a little patience and faith in yourself, you will soon experience many rewarding moments and feelings of satisfaction by watching your drawing skills progress and enjoying the surprise and admiration of friends, family and strangers along the way. Many say the difference between an average artist and a great one is practice. With proper instruction and personal dedication, your artistic potential is endless.

For most of my life, I was discouraged by my lack of ¨natural¨ artistic talent and intimidated by the talents of others. As a result, I did not enroll myself in any art classes or workshops and did not acknowledge and pursue my interest in the field until I was in my late twenties. Since then, I have enjoyed many workshops on the fundamentals of drawing and have participated in many life drawing classes held throughout the city on any given night. As a self-starting, resourceful artist who has actively and independently studied the works of others, I am thrilled to be able to offer you a tried and tested program that will teach you the theoretical as well as practical elements of drawing. Whether your focus is to learn the basics of drawing or you are looking to advance yourself beyond the basic level you have already achieved, Drawing Professor provides you with a broad range of material to suit your individual needs and goals. I look forward to working with you and to hearing any feedback you may have to offer.
