What are Focal Points?

When it comes to composition, we as artists must decide what aspect(s) or subject(s) of the drawing we wish to emphasize. Essentially, we must decide what the most important elements, or focal points will be. The primary focal point is the center that draws the most attention however there are also secondary focal points which draw significant interest from the viewer. In the photograph below, the primary focal point is the log and the secondary focal points are the tree and person walking in the background.
